Pastor and Founder, Elder Keith A. Hopps

Pastor Keith A. Hopps was born in Washington D.C.  As a young child, his mother told him about God - his life changed and the bible became one of his favorite books to read. Around the age of seven, after watching a T.V. program on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Pastor Hopps received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. In 1978, while in boot camp for the Marines during a church service, the Holy Spirit anointed Pastor Hopps and he wept throughout the service. At the end of the service the Chaplain released the rest of the platoon to the Drill Instructor, but Pastor Hopps was allowed to stay. The Chaplain sat with Pastor Hopps that Sunday and explained to him that he was weeping because God was calling him and that he would serve God.  In 1986 Pastor Hopps met and married his First Lady, Margaret Ramona Hopps. Four years later, after the birth of their first born Nandi S. Hopps, they joined Full Gospel A.M.E. Zion. It was there that Pastor Hopps received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost was not allowed free reign there, so the Lord removed the Hopps family. Later with the addition of their son Keith A. Hopps II the Lord directed them to Ebenezer A.M.E where Pastor Hopps joined the Poet Ministry and the King’s Men Choir. At a men’s retreat Pastor Hopps confessed Jesus Christ before men, and soon thereafter, while in the choir loft the Lord called him to the ministry. At a meeting of the called, Pastor Hopps learned that his age precluded him from serving in his calling at Ebenezer. Just before leaving Ebenezer to obey God’s call Pastor Hopps was almost killed by contacting the750-volt 3rd rail. Afterward, as he was being admitted into ICU the attending physician said, if Pastor Hopps had not come into the hospital, he would have died either that night or around the next morning. No one could explain why Pastor Hopps had no burn marks on his body. It was a miracle of God. After the Hopps family moved into their new home, Pastor Hopps was medically disqualified from his job and went almost two years without work. The Lord sustained them in their wilderness and then sent them to New Community COGIC where about 10 years later, Pastor Hopps received the charge by God to be a Pastor. Pastor Hopps also serves as the Chaplain of Poetry Ministry at Ebenezer. He is the author of two books, a screenplay, a play, poetry, prose, short stories and is also a spoken word artist with a soon to be released CD.
